Booked a table for Christmas Day and had lunch there. Very well organised day with helpful and friendly staff. The meals were excellent and the food just kept on coming. From the appetisers to mains and desserts, it was all delicious and professionally prepared. It certainly is worth considering a regular Xmas lunch booking there.
Weekend 13th Jan. Accessible room very nice. Roomy, great Aircond, suitable amenities. Easy parking close to room. Reception and room cleaning staff lovely.
Stunning looking pub, but that's where it stops for me.
Thursday night I was there with a group and I knew they had a gluten free menu ( hidden under the cash register bench), and was excited to choose something from it. An hour and 20 minutes after ordering a waiter came out to tell me that the item wasn't gf and wasn't available for me. 80 minutes later!
When I asked for the menu under the bench he wasn't impressed when I showed him the item high lighted in pink, with all the other gf items. He then put the menu away before I could order something else. No apology! I had to ask a couple of times to get to see the menu again.
Others also had issues, but that's their story to share.
Poor service!
When the food was finally served, it was over 2 hours from initially ordering ( my parents were with me!). Then it was served from last to order to first to order.
Due to a lack of options for eating out Sunday lunch time, a few of us went back to the pub. Again, the wait was long, the rice noodle salad dry and hard - chilli has been sliced up with the capsicum in the salad.
When we mentioned the chili to the waiter he argued and denied it was there. One of the people who received chilli in their salad was allergic, the waiter didn't believe it was chilly and didn't seem to care.
A manager then came to see what was happening, again didn't believe it's until she visited the kitchen and spoke with a chef! Yes, it was chilli!
Not on Loxton Pub!
The wait staff don't seem happy working there either. No smiles, no positive energy.
A picnic on the river is a much nicer option. Grab food from the local supermarket and serve yourself with a smile on one of the many tables along the river bank.
Room is above the bars and very noisy. Needing an afternoon nap but loud music prevented this.
Chose schnitzel for dinner. Big mistake. Extremely tough, worst schnitzel ever.
Then ordered a light beer and got a full strength instead. Didn't wake up until had drunk half. Not good when you have a liver disease.
So far we are not happy.
Only good thing is the Room is very clean and comfortable despite the noise.
Great local dining experience in the heart of Loxton - a step up from your standard pub
We were up in Loxton visiting close friends and came to the Hotel for some lunch. I'll be honest when I say I wasn't expecting much from a regional pub, but I was thoroughly impressed with my experience
An amazing menu with complex flavours, whilst also providing representation for the classic pub menu. Combine this with a great atmosphere and friendly staff, and you have a winning combination
I think this pub could easily compete with some of the high end ones in Adelaide. Top drawer, would highly recommend it to people (both locals and those passing through)
Nicely done up. Clearly very popular. Quite large. Obviously a hub in town.
Had some typical club aspects (e.g., a meat raffle in the bistro - maybe a SA thing?).
Meals were fine but oddly something like fish didn't come with a typical simple salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomato etc) was non existent. You got chips and the extra salad/vege bar (which didn't have a simple side salad) was an extra $14. Unusual for a typical pub meal. A bit of a disappointment but guess they have a captive audience! We ordered a plate of veges as, oddly again the meals don't come with them. It was at least a large plate and easily fed a few.
We only had dinner, so no comment re the accommodation.
A beautifully updated hotel with comfortable ambient spaces to enjoy your meal or just a drink with friends. Sadly, this pub is let down by staff with little training and poor service. There is no front of house service to speak of and after standing at the sign 'wait to be seated', a bar maid called out 'are you right' and pointed vaguely to a table well across the room. We had a reservation! My husband chose a seafood basket and, for myself, a chicken schnitzel and then had to wander around the bar area to find someone to place the order, etc. Our meals were brought to the table. Inexperienced staff had a 'don't really know what to do' attitude as we asked to have additional glasses and menus removed for space. The bain marie had a display of dry looking hot vegetables and boring mushy salads, which looked like leftovers. The whole time, we were there, no attendant serviced the bain marie. I also noticed when tables were cleaned after being used, the unused wine glasses were left for the next patrons. Overall, it was an ordinary experience in a beautiful old hotel which could be really great with the right people employed 🙂
We came here for lunch with a group. It's hit and miss as to when you get your meal. In a group of 14 we ordered first, 20 minutes before the rest of the group. The meals started coming out one or two at a time....but from last to order to first. After an hour we had to plead with a waiter to find out what's happening with our meals. Shame on us for coming back again....the same happened two nights ago.
The flat noodles in the salad bar were stuck together and just beyond raw. My fork couldn't penetrate them. The fish was bland and overcooked.
We ordered a gluten free meal. A hour and a half later the waiter came out to tell us that they couldn't accommodate us...no meal, no apology!
One of the salads had capsicum replaced with chilli. Unfortunately the recipient was allergic to chilli. At least she was given a refund when the chef admitted to using chilli. Only after the waiting staff denied the use of chilli.
